DeviantArtist Questionnaire

1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?
10 years

2. What does your username mean?
I created it from ancient Egyptian words I found in a library book (on the study of Egyptian language and hieroglyphics). "Hetem" means chaos/disaster/destruction and "Senar" means storm. So loosely translated my username means something like "Chaos Storm" or "Storm of Chaos/Destruction". I was about 14 years old when I came up with it. I thought it sounded cool. Now I'm so used to the username, not only on here but other sites, that I can't really imagine changing it.

3. Describe yourself in three words.
Shy, austere, compassionate.

4. Are you left or right handed?
Right handed.

5. What was your first deviation?
My very first was a coloured pencil drawing of Titania (how I imagined her to look) from Shakespeare's "A Midsummer's Night Dream". However I deleted the deviation a couple weeks after I posted, and my drawing is either lost or thrown away (I didn't think much of it, lol). The oldest deviation I have here that I haven't removed is -->

6. What is your favourite type of art to create?
Digital art, because you can do all sorts of neat techniques and effects with it and the layers tool is a godsend (as well as the undo button. lol) And because you're able to control the richness of colour of what you create, and it's no secret I love rich, vibrant colours.
I also prefer drawing people and characters and in an anime like style.

7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Realistic, definitely realistic. I was never good at drawing portraits in realistic style, even though they made me do it constantly in school art class. Just never got the hang of it.

8. What was your first favourite?

9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
It's kind of a tie between fanart, original fantasy/conceptual drawings, and nature photographs. I tend to try and balance them out in my favourites gallery, if I can.

10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
(Shilin Huang)
She's very inspirational to me, creating her own breathtaking manga with over ten years of hard work and development, from what was originally just OC's she created and drew for fun when she was younger. (Her old account with these old drawings --> )I've been following her works for many years now. Her art style is one that I really resonate with and find beautiful; along with some tutorials she has made over the years, this has helped me with my own artwork, as I've strived to improve and gain more skill. She is truly a one of a kind type of artist.
 

Edit: It was only after I posted this journal that I found out that Shilin actually has a "Hero of the Month" feature for this month here on deviantart. August Hero Challenge Whoohoo! Way to go Shilin!

11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
Um....I dunno. I'd feel awkward meeting random people from DA, I think.   But maybe it'd be cool to meet hontor, especially if they're selling a bunch of their awesome scultpures/figurines.

12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
Many people have influenced my life over these last ten years I've been a member. Many people have come and gone and I've kept in touch with a few.
All these people have been there for me throughout the years, helping and encouraging me, and generally being awesome themselves. And this is only to list a few! Much love to everyone~

And one of the people who had a great affect on me in particular was , who taught me to be true to myself and my art. That if there was something I didn't like, that I didn't have to be afraid to speak up about it/do something about it. That no matter what, you're your own person and can decide to do whatever makes you truly happy. I am very grateful to her for her advice, it has really helped me become a stronger person and helped me to enjoy life more.

13. What are your preferred tools to create art?
For drawing/painting, my digital tablet (Wacom Intuos5) and pen of course! And also Photoshop CS5.
For plushies, thread, needle, scissors, fabric paint and lots and lots of patience.
And for both, the one very essential tool.. mp3 player with lots of awesome music to listen to while I work.

14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
Uh.... the comfort of my own home.. I guess? lol

15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
Too many to count.

Though one of the best moments was years ago when the DA staff finally enabled thumbnails to be viewable in our "deviant watch message center". Before that only written links showed up each time one of the people we watched submitted something new. It was soooo tedious to have to click on every link just to see the pics. Especially when you had like hundreds of messages to go through. omg
